Chateau La Rose Figeac Pomerol
Château La Rose Figeac seduces with its bright fruit, its silky feel and its beautiful length throughout the tasting.
Chateau La Rose Figeac is a rich and plump Merlot-dominated wine from the Pomerol region of Bordeaux. It has lovely earthy aromas, tobacco smoke and liquorice wrapped round a beautiful structure, brimming with ripe dark cherry and plum fruit. There is great concentration on the palate with minty notes coming through. It is a delightful wine and one that can be enjoyed now.
Chateau La Rose Figeac is owned by Nathalie Despagne, who inherited it in 2013. The estate was created in 1961 by Nathalie’s grandfather, Louis Rapin, who also owned Chateau La Tour Figeac. He purchased a few vineyards from his neighbour and created the new Chateau La Rose Figeac. Like many Pomerol estates it is small, 4 hectares made up of nine plots on gravelly sands, which brings amazing aromatics to the wines. Farming has been organically certified since 2009 and the vineyards are made up of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

The Vineyard
The estate
It was in 1938 that Louis Rapin began
to acquire vineyards in the appellations of Montagne
Saint-Émilion and Saint-Émilion, including those of Château La Tour Figeac. Following the acquisition of various plots of vines in 1961, Louis Rapin renamed the complex Château La Rose Figeac. This Pomerol estate located on the right bank of Bordeaux has been managed by Nathalie Despagne since 2013. Upon her arrival, Nathalie Despagne undertook numerous works to allow Château La Rose Figeac to shine in the Pomerol appellation.
The vineyard
Located south-east of Pomerol, the 4.28-hectare vineyard of Château La Rose Figeac is planted in
sandy-gravelly soils typical of the appellation. With the plowing, grassing and environmentally friendly vineyard work, the plots of vines, aged 30 years on average, have been cultivated with organic farming,
certified Ecocert since 2009.
Winemaking
Manually harvested, the grapes are subject to a sorting by densimetry on the vines and at the cellar. Traditional plot-by-plot vinification. Pour-overs, racking and light punch-downs. Pre-fermentation cold vatting for 3 days. Thermo-regulated alcoholic
fermentation with native yeasts. Maceration for 2 to 4 weeks before the running-off for the malolactic fermentation carried out in 225- and
500-litre barrels, and in a stainless steel vat of 40hL. Ageing in barrels (60% new oak, 40% second-fill barrels, of which 20% in barrels of 500 litres).
